All six crew members of a US Navy helicopter that crashed into San Diego Bay on Thursday night miraculously survived, according to reports.
The MH-60R helicopter touched down around 6:40 p.m., the Navy commander said. Beth Teach, spokeswoman for the Naval Air Forces Pacific Fleet, said: Confirmed Fox 5 to San Diego.
The helicopter was conducting a routine training exercise at the time of the crash.
“Due to the nature of the exercise, a safety boat arrived on scene and with the assistance of the Federal Fire Marshal's Office all six crew members survived and were immediately moved ashore,” Teach said.
“All staff members are undergoing medical evaluation at this time.”
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
The U.S. Coast Guard is on scene to assist with the incident.
The helicopter is stationed at Naval Air Station North Island and is part of HSM-41, a “fleet replacement” or training squadron.
