US Navy scales back personnel to essential levels in Bahrain in preparation for possible actions against Iran, according to officials

The U.S. 5th Fleet base in Bahrain has been reduced to key personnel only as tensions with Iran escalate, according to various officials. Currently, there are fewer than 100 staff members at the facility. This evacuation resembles steps taken before last June’s Operation Midnight Hammer, aimed at Iranian nuclear sites.

Recently, the U.S. has increased its military presence in the Middle East while negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program continue. U.S. Central Command revealed that sailors and Marines aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln are conducting regular maintenance to ensure the aircraft remain operational.

President Trump, in his State of the Union address, raised concerns about Iran’s “sinister ambitions” related to their nuclear developments. He emphasized that the U.S. has not received assurances from Tehran that it would abandon its pursuit of nuclear weapons.

Trump referred to last summer’s operations against Iran’s nuclear efforts, noting, “After Midnight Hammer, they were cautioned against restarting their weapons programs. Yet, they persist.” He expressed a preference for a diplomatic resolution but firmly stated that he will not permit Iran—the largest sponsor of terrorism—to acquire nuclear capabilities.
