Sinema Warns U.S. Risks Losing AI Leadership to China
Former Senator Kyrsten Sinema from Arizona has expressed concerns that the United States could lose its leading position in artificial intelligence to China. She emphasized that this competition is fundamentally a matter of national security, urging that nations “must win” in this arena.
“China is making every effort to lead the way in AI and will integrate its own values into that technology,” Sinema stated during an appearance on “Fox & Friends.” She acknowledged President Trump’s views on the issue, underscoring the necessity for American values to prevail globally as the U.S. navigates this AI challenge. The development of data centers across the country, according to her, is critical.
Sinema highlighted the urgent need for the U.S. to enhance its domestic data centers and invest in AI infrastructure, stating, “We have to win that race.”
She also countered worries regarding job losses due to AI, comparing the current “AI revolution” to the Internet boom of the 1990s. Sinema noted that fears about the Internet’s effects on employment were prevalent, yet it ultimately contributed to increased efficiency and productivity.
“While people may think, ‘Robots are taking over,’ they might overlook how these technologies are already making life better,” she pointed out. For instance, AI has optimized routes for fire trucks and school buses, showcasing the benefits communities are reaping from such advancements.
Sinema criticized left-leaning narratives as “misinformation” regarding the effects of AI and data centers, praising the Trump administration’s clarity on this subject. “This administration effectively communicates the truth,” she remarked. She believes such communication is key to uniting individuals seeking an improved quality of life, particularly for future generations. “This is an issue that transcends partisan lines,” she added.
