U.S. Military Action Against Iran Due to Threats
Senior officials in the Trump administration stated that the president had “no choice” but to take military action against Iran. They allege that Iran was preparing to launch missiles at U.S. targets while also rebuilding its nuclear capabilities.
During a briefing with reporters, an official asserted that the breakdown in negotiations with Iran pushed the president toward a military strike. They explained that following Operation Midnight Hammer, a June 2025 operation that reportedly devastated Iran’s nuclear sites, Iran was explicitly warned to halt its nuclear enrichment, or there would be “problems.”
However, intelligence reports indicated that Iran has been reconstructing its capabilities, accumulating supplies, and considering the development of centrifuges, which directly violates U.S. warnings.
U.S. officials believed that Iran was deliberately delaying negotiations, as per discussions mediated by Oman. The U.S. had offered “free nuclear fuel forever,” but Iran dismissed this proposal, stating it wasn’t suitable for them. Officials concluded that Iran was essentially trying to buy time.
After discovering Iran’s intention to use conventional weapons first against the United States, negotiations fell apart. A senior official noted that the president wouldn’t let U.S. forces be vulnerable to such attacks.
In a video address, President Trump announced that the U.S. had conducted an attack aimed at neutralizing Iran, emphasizing that it has always been American policy—especially under his administration—that Iran should never possess nuclear weapons. He asserted, “We’re going to destroy their missiles; their missile industry will completely vanish.”
Interestingly, just hours before the attack, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi suggested in an interview that a deal between the U.S. and Iran was “within reach.”
Following the U.S. military action, Iran retaliated by launching attacks against U.S. allies in the region.
