US plans to cancel visa of Colombian President Gustavo Petro following NYC protest with Roger Waters

Visa Cancellation for Colombian President

The State Department announced on Friday that Colombian President Gustavo Petro’s visa will be revoked.

The announcement followed an incident where Petro spoke in New York, reportedly urging U.S. soldiers to resist orders. In their statement, the State Department described his actions as “reckless and inflammatory.”

During his visit for the UN General Assembly, Petro made headlines for riding a bull outside the UN headquarters, where he spoke against U.S. military actions, urging soldiers to avoid using their weapons. “I won’t follow Trump’s orders,” he told a crowd of anti-Israel activists. “Abide by the commands of humanity!”

Petro was joined by musician Roger Waters, a known critic of Israel, during this rally. They later posed for a photo next to a large Palestinian flag.

Moreover, Petro shared a video on social media featuring Waters and highlighted the urgency of the situation in Gaza, stating, “If Gaza falls, humanity will die.”

This isn’t the first clash between Petro and Trump. Earlier this year, tensions arose over issues like immigrant deportations and proposed visa sanctions against Colombia, along with threats of increased tariffs, which could reach 50% if Colombia refused to accept its citizens back.

In response to these threats, Petro, a former guerrilla, shifted his approach, even offering the use of U.S. presidential planes to repatriate immigrants.

Waters has long been a controversial figure due to his strong anti-Israel stance. His past actions, including a provocative costume choice during a performance in Berlin, sparked significant backlash. In that incident, he dressed as a Nazi officer, which drew sharp criticism, particularly from the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

In a 2017 interview, Waters addressed questions about his citizenship status, clarifying that although he holds a visa and pays taxes, he is not a U.S. citizen.
