US presidential candidate Jill Stein arrested during anti-Israel protest at Washington University in St. Louis

Jill Stein, a presidential candidate for the far-left Green Party, was arrested during an anti-Israel protest at Washington University in St. Louis on Saturday, a day after she was confronted in front of Columbia University.

The doctor-turned-activist-politician was among more than 80 people arrested after a large group refused to leave the private university’s campus. According to the St. Louis News Agency.

Video posted to Stein’s X account Police were shown detaining Paul, 73, and escorting him away from the protest.

Mr. Stein’s campaign manager, Jason Cole, and deputy campaign director, Kelly Merrilkay, were also arrested.

“We stand here with WashU students defending our constitutional rights and standing up for the American people who want this genocide to end now,” Stein said.

Other posts claimed that Ms. Stein had “drawn the line with the students” before police “used force” against her and other protesters.

Stein’s X account states, “Jill and others were trying to defuse tensions with the police before making arrests.”

“It is shameful that university officials are condoning the use of force against students who are simply seeking peace, human rights, and an end to the genocide that the American people abhor.”

The protests called for an end to the war in Gaza and demanded that the university sever ties with Boeing, the paper said.

“Through the words and actions of this group, it quickly became clear that they had no good intentions on our campus and that this demonstration had the potential to get out of control and become dangerous,” the statement said. “We are firmly committed to freedom of expression and provide ample opportunity for voices to be heard on campus. However, we expect everyone to respect our policies. We will take swift action to fully enforce them.”

Stein’s arrest came a day after she was faced with: Jewish protesters outside the gates of Columbia University on Friday morning, accusing her of being a “minority” and representing the “1%” of Jews who oppose Israel’s war against Hamas.

Mr. Stein, 73, a physician and Harvard graduate, sought the Green Party’s presidential nomination in 2012 and 2016.

Last November, she announced her 2024 X bid, citing ending the “genocide in Gaza” as one of her top priorities.
