US takes delivery of $400M jet from Qatar for use as Trump’s official aircraft

May 20 – Reports indicate that the United States is considering accepting 747 jetliners as gifts from Qatar, with the Air Force tasked to quickly determine how to upgrade these jets for military use.

The New York Times noted that Secretary Pete Hegseth has agreed to the acquisition of a Boeing Maid valued at $400 million and has directed the US Air Force to expedite its conversion into President Trump’s official aircraft.

Legal analysts are raising questions regarding the implications of foreign gifts under existing Gift Law, which is designed to combat corruption and prevent undue influence.

There are also efforts from Democrats to block any extradition related to this situation.

Meanwhile, Qatar has seemingly brushed off concerns about the aircraft deal. Trump’s previous comments labeled the doubts as “silly,” further complicating the ethical dimensions of the matter.

Various outlets, including Bloomberg, CBS News, and CNBC, have reported on the agreement, citing a spokesperson from the Pentagon. However, officials from the Department of Defense were not immediately available for comment, and attempts to reach the Qatari government have also been unsuccessful.
