USC football gives us a taste of the holidays against Penn State

October is the best month of the year for many reasons.

Sports is a big part of that. Not only is the NFL and college football season in full swing, but there's also the MLB and American playoffs. WNBAthe resumption of NBA activities, and even the return of the NBA. For motorsports fans, there's also the NASCAR playoffs, the Formula 1 season is winding down, and the United States Grand Prix will be held in Austin next weekend.

Of course, another reason October is such a great month is that it's the runway into the holiday season. Halloween begins at the end of the month, but here in the United States Thanksgiving begins, followed by the December holidays.

That means the holiday season TV specials are just around the corner.

USC tried to start the game a little early Saturday against No. 4 Penn State. Michael Lantz's field goal early in the second quarter gave the Trojans a 17-3 lead as they lined up for the ensuing kickoff. But from the sidelines of USC, it looked like the dance scene from “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”

It's hard to pick a favorite, but wide receiver Asante Das may be the closest to Linus' impression.

Happy October, everyone.
