USDA Axes $230K Contract for ‘Brazilian Forest and Gender Consultant’

The USDA has significantly reduced millions with contracts that were active under the Biden administration, including “Brazilian Forests and Gender Consultants” and “Central American Gender Assessment Consultants.”

Agriculture Secretary Brook Rollins announcement Friday's cuts say the division has terminated 78 contracts totaling over $132 million. Rollins said 1,000 contracts are currently under review for potential terminations.

The findings are the results of a review by the Elon Musk-led Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

“I welcome Doge's efforts at USDA because I know that the work will make us better, stronger, faster and more efficient. I would like to introduce the next few days and counts. We hope we will avoid full access and transparency in the week,” Rollins said.

Among the $132 million termination agreements include:

  • Media contracts including $2.77 million Politics Subscription
  • $374,000 for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Onboarding Specialists
  • $229,000 for Brazilian Forest and Gender Consultants
  • A Central American Gender Assessment Consultant $29,000
  • $121,000 for Women and Forest Carbon Initiative Mentorship Program
  • $254,000 for the Diversity Dialogue Workshop
  • $91,000 for “increasing access to occupational and economic opportunities for women” in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean.

The USDA said it also cancelled employee training for 948, of which 758 focused on DEI. Other cancelled trainings were on topics such as “environmental justice” and gender ideology.

Rollins has worked further on plans to “optimize the workforce” by removing unnecessary positions for USDA, bringing the workforce back to offices and moving employees to the country's centres that bring them closer to rural communities. He said there was.
