USDA issues alert after complaints about rocks in Trader Joe’s frozen pilaf

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued a public health warning this week after concerns were raised about the contents of Trader Joe’s frozen chicken pilaf products.

USDA Food Safety Inspection Service announced on Wednesday Trader Joe’s has received multiple complaints that frozen cooked chicken, lentils and caramelized onion products contain foreign objects, “especially stones.” One person said he injured his tooth after eating the product, but no other injuries were reported, the agency added.

The product was manufactured between November 1, 2023 and January 19, 2023, and was widely distributed in grocery chain stores across the United States, but the product is no longer sold at Trader Joe’s, according to testing authorities.

If the product remains in the freezer, discard it or return it to the store of purchase.
