Usher brings diabetes awareness and swagger to the Capitol

Usher also met with Reps. Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) and Diana DeGette (D-CO), co-sponsors of the Diabetes Prevention Act, which seeks to expand access to Medicare diabetes prevention programs.

DeGette, co-chair of the Congressional Diabetes Caucus, praised Usher for working with lawmakers to raise awareness about type 1 diabetes.

“He’s been working with me and Congressman Bilirakis to get the word out about the issues of Type 1 diabetes and early testing,” DeGette told reporters after meeting with Usher. “He’s decided to use his voice to raise awareness and I’m so grateful to him.”

DeGette and Bilirakis introduced the diabetes bill in April and have been working with leadership “to get the bill passed,” he said.

On his way out of the Capitol, the eight-time Grammy Award-winning singer confessed that he may be returning to Washington soon.

“This isn’t the first time, and it won’t be the last time I’ll be back,” he said when asked by The Hill if he plans to return to the Capitol for future meetings.
