USMNT continues US sports success against Canada this year with international friendly win in Minnesota

How Team USA is Inspiring the Nation with Their Faith

Jesse Bradley, a former professional soccer player and chaplain for the Seattle Sounders, has shared insights on how the U.S. Men’s National Team is making history at the 2026 World Cup. They’ve won their first two matches in the group stage for the first time since 1930. Bradley highlights the team’s strong expression of faith, which has reportedly fostered Bible studies and prayer sessions post-game, thus creating a sense of unity among Americans amidst the growing interest in soccer.

In another exciting match, the U.S. took on Canada, securing a 1-0 victory. It might have been labeled just an international friendly, but for the U.S. men’s national soccer team, it was a significant win over a longstanding rival, occurring in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The USMNT concluded their international break undefeated, bouncing back from a hard loss against Belgium in the Round of 16 during the World Cup. The single goal that sealed the victory came from Justin Ellis, a promising 19-year-old forward from Florida who plays for Orlando City SC.

Although star player Christian Pulisic was absent from the lineup, recovering from injuries sustained during the World Cup, Ellis stepped up. He made an impressive debut, scoring in a previous match against Peru, and continued to shine against Canada by netting a goal from a well-placed cross by Alex Freeman in the 29th minute.

Interestingly, Ellis is eligible to play internationally for Uruguay as well, due to his mother’s heritage. His call-up to the senior team, added by manager Mauricio Pochettino, offers him valuable experience ahead of future competitions like the upcoming 2030 World Cup—it’s a name to remember.

The U.S. recently demonstrated dominant performances against their friendly rivals, achieving victories over Peru (4-1), Chile (4-2), and Mexico (3-0). As these players return to their clubs, they carry the momentum of positive development fostered under the new coach.

Notably, this victory against Canada adds to the U.S.’s impressive record in various sports this year. Alongside the Winter Olympics gold medals in both men’s and women’s ice hockey, the national team also triumphed over Canada in baseball during the World Baseball Classic group stage. There’s something to be said about the competitive spirit; it’s blossoming across several sports.
