USPS worker shot dead at Missouri City facility, co-worker arrested

An employee was shot and killed at a USPS processing facility in Missouri City, Texas, on Monday night, and a co-worker was taken into custody. fox 26 houston This was reported by local police and USPS.

The fatal incident occurred around 10 p.m., when police were called to the processing facility at 611 Highway 90 Alto for reports of a shooting.

Police found one employee dead inside with a gunshot wound and arrested another employee.

The vast facility was evacuated and video from the scene showed dozens of workers outside and a heavy police presence on the scene.

It is unclear exactly how the incident unfolded and where in the building it occurred.

The identities of both the victim and suspect have not been released.

Mail processing at the facility has been suspended while the investigation is conducted. The facility is located approximately 22 miles southwest of Houston.

Dana Carter, an inspector with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service's Houston Division, confirmed the shooting at a news conference outside the facility late Monday.

“We can confirm that there was one individual involved. That individual is in custody and the community is safe,” Carter told ABC13. “At this time, there is one victim. The individual is deceased and there is once again an active investigation. We will continue to move forward with that process as we prepare to notify next of kin.”

He said the incident does not pose a threat to the public.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Missouri City Police Department and USPS for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.
