Rep. John Curtis (R-Utah), who is running to replace Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), has said he supports law enforcement but supports the Black Lives Matter movement, which advocates for defunding police.
Curtis released an ad in April touting his pro-law enforcement policies.
But in June 2020, he sided with the Black Lives Matter group, which supports defunding the police.
He writes: #Juneteenth We commemorate the official end of slavery and pledge to work together to find meaningful solutions to problems that exist in society. All people, regardless of skin color, deserve our love and respect. Black Lives Matter. #utpol”

Black Lives Matter I was asked Cutting funding for law enforcement. The group wrote in May 2020:We demand a national defunding of the police. We demand investment in our communities and resources so Black people can not only survive, but thrive. If you’re with us, sign our petition now and help amplify our voices.”
Curtis said there will be “work” in 2021 to address “the important conversations that began with the death of George Floyd.”
“As the nation awaits the final verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial, it is clear that the important conversation that began with George Floyd’s death has only just begun, and regardless of the outcome of the trial, there is still work to be done,” the Utah candidate wrote.

During a 2017 debate, Curtis said he supported Trump’s border wall if it was the best way to secure the border, but explained that the idea of a border wall “is charged with all of the accumulated racism.”
