Andre Seldon Jr., a 22-year-old football player at Utah State University, has died, the university announced.
Seddon Jr. played at Michigan State and New Mexico State before enrolling at Utah State.
Authorities received a report that a man had jumped off a cliff at Porcupine Reservoir and not resurfaced. After searching the scene, a Utah Department of Public Safety dive team found Seldon Jr.’s body.
“Our football program is heartbroken by the loss of one of our colleagues,” Utah State interim head coach and defensive coordinator Nate Drehling said in a news release. “Having known Andre during our time together at New Mexico State, I know for a fact he was a great person and teammate.
“We send our condolences and prayers to Andre’s family as we grieve this great loss.”
Seldon Jr.’s football career began as an All-American in his hometown of Michigan. He first attended the University of Michigan but only played in two games before choosing to transfer to New Mexico State University. He played more games as an Aggies. The former Wolverine played two years in Las Cruces, recording 64 tackles and two interceptions.
Seldon Jr. was expected to transfer again to Utah State and join the 2024 team.
“The entire Utah State University athletics department is heartbroken by the sudden passing of Andre Seldon Jr.,” Vice President and Director of Athletics Diana Sabau said in a statement. “We offer our deepest condolences to Andre’s family, friends, teammates and all who loved him.”
