Utah woman suspected of murder after friend shot in apparent failed suicide pact

A Utah woman has been arrested on murder charges after her friend was shot to death. Police said the suicide promise the women had made several weeks earlier had not been completed.

Heavenly Faith Garfield, 21, was arrested Tuesday and remained jailed in Utah County Wednesday without bail. Saratoga Springs Police recommended charging her with her murder and possession of a firearm. Jail records do not list an attorney to represent her, and no charges have been filed.

Police said Garfield’s father called 911 to report the shooting just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The probable cause affidavit said her daughter shot the 21-year-old victim at 10:45 a.m. as part of a suicide pact.

Family members said Garfield and the victim had been discussing the arrangement for several weeks, according to the affidavit.

The victim’s name has not been released.
