According to the Herald, the victim, who was not publicly identified, had to amputate one arm under the wrist and the other half above the forearm. She returned to Canada for additional treatment.
Authorities have not decided which shark species to bite her, but they said it appears to be a bull shark.
Local Reports Proposed The shark species was bull shark.
“The shark was estimated to be about 6 feet. [1.83m] length. However, the species have not been identified yet. Local authorities determined that tourists tried to engage with animals from the shallow waters while trying to take photos,” local authorities said.
Shark attacks are reportedly rare in Tak and Caicos, with only one incident reported last year.
“Some people believe that feeding sharks are best for business or will increase customer hints, but by adjusting the shark to take a bitch with a spear, you can make reeffish come out of the gaps in the reef. Some people mistakenly believe they will teach them to kick them out, but teaching sharks to get food from divers is just putting both humans and sharks at risk.” Cayman authorities warned.
