Van Jones on Democrats' 'volcanic anger' with Schumer: 'We need alpha energy'

CNN political commentator Van Jones weighed it against a “volcanic fury” Democrat with Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.) after voting to advance the spending bill supported by the GOP.

“We want some alpha energy, and that's not what we see. This party is tired of watching Donald Trump and Elon Musk run through this party, run through this country, run through the constitution,” Jones appeared on CNN on Friday night.

“And if you only have one opportunity to stand up and don't take it, it's very difficult,” added President Obama's former adviser.

Jones responded to a clip from radio host Charlamanu Tar.

“Dems don't just have messaging issues. They have leadership issues,” the radio host said. “World Chuck Schumer, Hakem Jeffries Schumer, they should all resign.”

Still in the midst of the losses of the 2024 presidential election, Capitol Hill Democrats expressed their anger towards Schumer and announced on Thursday that they would advance the ongoing resolution (CR) that Republicans nurtured to fund the government until September. He was one of 10 Democrats on Friday to vote to promote the GOP-backed law.

Later that day, the law was passed by 54-46 votes. Only Officer Jeanne Shaheen (DN.H.) and Angus King (I-Maine) conspired with the Democrats, but supported the measure in a final floor vote. President Trump is expected to sign legislation.

Schumer has been heavily surged from House Democrats, including New York Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

“There's a deep sense of anger and betrayal,” she said. “And this isn't just progressive Democrats, it's all about the whole, the whole party.”

Jones said Friday that longtime Democratic leaders would lose their seat for progressive lawmakers if the virtual Senate primary between Schumer and Ocasio-Cortez is held now.

“But if you want someone to stand up to this bully, then you have an emotional need to stand up to this bully, do something, shut down the government, and at least if you're a bit crazy about rationality, then there's an emotional need to stop Donald Trump and Elon Musk from running this party,” Jones said.

“And I think Chuck Schumer fundamentally misunderstood the room,” he added.
