Lindsey Vonn Plans to Compete in Olympics Despite Injury

Three-time Olympic medalist Lindsey Vonn has expressed her intention to compete in the upcoming Winter Olympics, even after sustaining a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Sports medicine expert Dr. Rick Lehman highlighted Vonn’s mental resilience and discussed the accompanying risks and potential of her comeback.

In a separate development, Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio attended the Winter Olympics on Thursday, celebrating Team USA’s impressive 5-1 victory over the Czech Republic in women’s ice hockey. They were accompanied by women’s gold medalists Jocelyn Lamoureux-Davidson and Monique Lamoureux, as well as Olympic champions in speed skating and figure skating, Apolo Anton Ohno and Evan Lysacek, respectively.

Vance’s visit to Milan marked the first leg of his diplomatic mission tied to the Winter Olympics, which also included upcoming stops in Armenia and Azerbaijan. He was seen enthusiastically supporting Team USA as Alex Carpenter scored the initial goal of the match.

“Whether you’re a Democrat, Republican, or independent, the whole nation is behind you,” he encouraged the athletes during his earlier remarks.

In a light-hearted moment, Second Lady Usha Vance joined the trip, despite not being particularly fond of sports, yet often insisting on watching the Olympics every two years. “It’s just something that unites everyone,” the Vice President remarked.

Carpenter’s goal was pivotal in kickstarting the scoring for Team USA, while Haley Skumra notably led the team with two goals. Additionally, Hilary Knight, making her final Olympic appearance, contributed another goal, joined by Joy Dunn.

Looking ahead, the American team is set to face Finland; however, the Finnish squad is currently managing a norovirus outbreak, leading to a delay of their game against Canada, which is now scheduled for February 12th.
