The Vice President and Secretary of State are set to make media appearances on Sunday, following President Trump’s recent military actions against Iran.
Vance will be on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” while Rubio is scheduled for CBS’s “Face The Nation” and Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”
This was announced after the U.S. conducted airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, including the Fordow site located in mountainous terrain.
In a message about True Society, Trump emphasized, “The full payload of the bomb has been dropped in significant areas.”
Vance and Rubio found themselves in the spotlight as Trump, alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegses, made the announcement about the airstrike from the White House.
“Our goal was to dismantle Iran’s nuclear capabilities and counter the nuclear threat posed by its primary backers,” Trump stated. “I can report this strike has been a monumental military success.”
Trump asserted that he had “completely obliterated” the nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan, cautioning that further strikes could occur if Tehran does not negotiate a satisfactory peace agreement. However, he didn’t elaborate on how negotiations should progress after this military action.
Images have emerged showing Trump, Vance, Rubio, Hegses, and others in the situation room during the event.
Trump has consistently called for a deal regarding Iran’s nuclear program but, earlier this week, made it clear that military action was a possibility, insisting that Tehran cannot be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. He mentioned that a decision on further action could come within two weeks.
The strikes incited a new wave of hostilities, as two neighboring countries in the Middle East exchanged missiles just days after Israel conducted a significant attack on Iran.
Following Israel’s initial assault on Iran, Rubio, who serves as Trump’s national security adviser, distanced Washington from this act, suggesting that it was a unilateral decision by Israel.
However, the Trump administration soon adopted a more supportive stance regarding the Israeli actions against Iran, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of several military officials within the Iranian regime, targeting the inner circle of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
“We maintain complete control over Iran’s airspace,” Trump tweeted on Tuesday, demanding “unconditional surrender” from Iran.
In a detailed social media post earlier this week, Vance reflected on discussions within the White House as Trump engaged directly with his national security team about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The Vice President acknowledged that “after years of ineffective foreign policy, people understandably fear foreign entanglements,” but he expressed trust in Trump, asserting that the President is “solely focused on using U.S. military power to achieve American interests.”
