Vance avoids joining Netanyahu's reelection campaign even with Trump's support

Vance Declines to Endorse Netanyahu’s Reelection

Vice President JD Vance has opted not to back Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in his bid for reelection. Vance stated that he prefers to steer clear of the Israeli electoral process, even though President Trump has shown his support for Netanyahu.

In an interview with Mark Halperin on “2WAY Tonight,” Vance expressed that his primary focus is on American candidates as the midterms approach. “The president has the most effective endorsement in American or international political history,” he noted. “I endorse American candidates, and that’s where I’m focused on in the midterms. So I’m not getting involved in Israeli elections.”

Vance clarified that his decision shouldn’t be seen as a criticism of Netanyahu. “I’m not anti-endorsing him. I’m not pro-endorsing him. I’m not getting involved in Israeli elections,” he added, suggesting his position is purely apolitical.

This comes shortly after Trump issued a fervent endorsement for Netanyahu, describing him as a vital ally in the fight against Iran. In a detailed post on Truth Social, Trump called Netanyahu “a Great Warrior Prime Minister” and emphasized the importance of his support.

Trump stated, “Please let this Letter serve to represent my Complete and Total Endorsement of Bibi Netanyahu in his upcoming Race for Re-Election as Prime Minister of Israel. BIBI NETANYAHU WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” Netanyahu responded positively, expressing gratitude for what he termed an “extraordinary endorsement.” He emphasized that Trump has been a tremendous friend to Israel and reassured that they would work together to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

As Vance chooses not to engage in the Israeli electoral scene, it’s noteworthy that he had previously involved himself in international politics. Earlier this year, he traveled to Hungary to support then-Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s campaign before Orban ultimately lost his reelection effort.

The White House has not yet commented on Vance’s recent statements.
