Vance, Harris, and Newsom under scrutiny as early 2028 presidential actions intensify

TPUSA Supports Vance for 2028

Andrew Corbett, the executive producer of “The Charlie Kirk Show,” has mentioned that Turning Point USA is fully backing Vice President J.D. Vance as he prepares for the 2028 election. He praised Charlie Kirk’s approach to coalition-building and open discussions.

With key Democratic figures like former Vice President Kamala Harris and California Governor Gavin Newsom making headlines, the political landscape is heating up in light of the upcoming presidential race.

Though the main focus remains on the 2026 midterm elections, activity surrounding the 2028 race is already noticeable, especially as President Donald Trump—who will be term-limited—steps back.

The official call for the next president won’t resonate until after November’s midterms, but potential candidates are already gaining attention.

Many view Mr. Vance as a natural successor to Trump and a strong figure for the MAGA movement. His endorsement by Erica Kirk at a recent Turning Point USA summit has added to his visibility and support.

Focus on 2026 as 2028 Looms

Kirk, who took over Turning Point following her husband Charlie Kirk’s tragic death, began the event by endorsing Vance directly, expressing intent to support him robustly in the upcoming presidential bid. She referred to the next president as “48,” hinting at Vance’s aspirations.

Turning Point USA, known for its influence among younger conservatives, could greatly enhance Vance’s chances if he opts to run for president.

A former Trump adviser noted it’s no surprise that Charlie Kirk stood behind Vance, given his prior support. This backing from a significant group reaffirms Vance’s strong position, signaling a warning to other GOP candidates.

While Vance is marked as the leading Republican candidate early on, others, including Senators Ted Cruz and Rand Paul, are also starting to make their presence felt.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has had confrontations with Trump in the past, remains a notable figure to watch, alongside other potential candidates such as Virginia’s Glenn Youngkin and Georgia’s Brian Kemp.

As the landscape of the Republican primaries unfolds, the party’s ability to secure a strong candidate may hinge on both Trump’s second term performance and the midterm election outcomes.

On the Democratic side, although some individuals are already positioning themselves for what lies ahead, the party must wrestle with re-establishing strength in the nomination process.

Harris, representing the Democratic mainstream after President Biden’s withdrawal, delivered assertive speeches criticizing both political parties during recent events.

Newsom, meanwhile, garnered attention at the Democratic National Committee meetings, building his reputation through interactions with delegates and addressing key party leaders in early voting states.

Democratic Aspirations for 2028

Amid their growing visibility, both Harris and Newsom face skepticism about their electability in 2028, should they choose to run. Yet, if they step forward, they may trigger a wave of other candidates entering the fray.

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker was also seen during the DNC activities, hinting at his ambitions for the White House.

Numerous other Democrats are vying for attention, engaging with constituents in critical early voting states. Notable names include Governors Josh Shapiro and Gretchen Whitmer, along with a mix of progressive and moderate leaders like Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

As we move forward, expect more candidates to emerge as we edge closer to the midterms.

A New Hampshire-based Democratic strategist mentioned receiving regular fundraising communications from candidates, indicating significant early campaign activity.

“I get about a dozen emails weekly,” the strategist shared, highlighting the high stakes and extensive involvement anticipated in the upcoming elections.
