Vice President JD Vance Weighs Presidential Run in 2028
Vice President JD Vance has indicated that he might not run for president in 2028, citing the need to focus on his expanding family.
During a recent town hall with CBS News, Vance, who is seen as a leading candidate to follow President Donald Trump in the Republican Party, addressed questions about his presidential aspirations. He has kept his plans quite vague over the past few months.
“CBS Evening News” host Tony Dokoupil inquired, “Is there a chance you don’t run for president in 2028?”
Vance responded, “Of course, there’s a chance. I mean, we’ve got four little kids. My wife has never loved politics; she loves public service. I think you can do a lot of good in this job, and I’ve attempted to do as much good as possible.”
As of Monday, Vance’s children are aged nine, six, four, and three months. His wife, Second Lady Usha Vance, made headlines earlier this year by becoming the first second lady known to give birth while in office. She was recently seen with baby Alec Neel Vance at a White House event.
The vice president challenged the assumption that, as a politician, he is expected to run for president in 2028.
He stated he wouldn’t announce his intentions for the 2028 race until after the midterm elections, admitting that he is “a procrastinator.” Earlier in the month, he had avoided discussing his plans for 2028 but mentioned that the outcomes of the upcoming elections would provide him with “new information” to consider when making his decision.
“What will happen is, after all of these fine people elect Mike Rogers United States Senator for the state of Michigan, then I’ll have to think about it and actually make a decision. But, you know, anything can happen, man,” Vance concluded.
