Vice President Vance denounced CBS News' Margaret Brennan for the “crazy exchange” that linked the Holocaust to free speech.
in x's postVance responded to a post that included a clip from Brennan's Sunday morning interview with Secretary of State Marco Rubio about “Face the Nation.” Brennan questioned the secretary about Vance's recent remarks on German history.
“This is a crazy exchange,” Vance posted. “Does the media really think the Holocaust was caused by freedom of speech?”
Brennan asked Rubio what Vance achieved by meeting with the leaders of the German far-right political group alternative (AFD), and in his speech he said censorship was the biggest threat to Europe.
Rubio questioned why his allies were irritated by Vance, using his free speech to express his opinion on the state of European law.
Brennan pushed Rubio back, claiming that the Vice President's comments were criticized because he was in Germany when he made the controversial statement.
“Well, he was standing in a country where freedom of speech was weaponized to do genocide, and he met with the head of a political party with some historical connections with extreme views. I did,” Brennan said. “That context was changing the tone, and you know that.”
“Well, I have to oppose you… I have to oppose you. Free speech was not used to implement genocide,” replied Rubio. “Genocide was carried out by an authoritarian Nazi regime that happened to be a genocide because they hated Jews and hated minorities.”
