Vice President J.D. Vance Installs Chicken Coop at Naval Observatory

Vice President J.D. Vance and his family recently added a custom-built chicken coop at the historic Naval Observatory, which serves as the official residence of the Vice President.

The coop was crafted by Carolina Coops, a family-owned business based in the U.S. that has been creating chicken coops for nearly two decades. Matt and Gunon Dubois, the founders, described this project as a significant highlight in their professional journey.

“Seeing our work become part of a historic home like the Naval Observatory is a milestone I will never forget. As a small business owner, this is a true ‘American Dream’ moment for me and my family,” Matt Dubois shared.

He expressed gratitude for the opportunity, emphasizing how raising chickens can offer families valuable life lessons. “This project is more than just a chicken coop; it reflects the dedication of our entire team and the principles that have guided us from the beginning,” he added.

The chicken coop was showcased during the annual “Camp VPR” event aimed at local 4-H students, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture. This initiative aligns with a growing trend towards sustainable living practices.

According to the vice president’s press secretary, Vance will be personally looking after the chickens, and his children have already given names to the new arrivals.

In a light-hearted moment during his campaign for 2024, Vance quipped about the high demand for eggs in his household, mentioning that his two young sons typically go through around 14 eggs each morning.

Historically, several previous vice presidents have made their mark on the Naval Observatory grounds. Joe Biden established a heritage garden, while Karen Pence set up a beehive, and Kamala Harris made enhancements to the mansion’s library.

The installation of the chicken coop comes shortly after President Melania Trump introduced a similar initiative, unveiling a beehive at the White House designed to resemble a miniature version of the presidential mansion.
