Vance Supports Gabbard Amid Iran Tensions

Vice President JD Vance has emphasized that Tulsi Gabbard, who serves as a key member of Trump’s team, plays a significant role in what he calls the “coalition” of Trump supporters. This comes after President Trump expressed disinterest in earlier conversations with lawmakers regarding threats posed by Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

In a statement, Vance praised Gabbard as a “veteran, patriot, and loyal supporter of President Trump,” underscoring her commitment to national security. He remarked, “She is an important member of our team and we are grateful for her tireless work to keep America safe from foreign threats.”

Despite contrasting viewpoints within Trump’s administration, Vance and Gabbard have consistently advocated for a non-interventionist foreign policy. Unlike more hawkish voices, such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio, they have supported limited interference in other nations’ affairs.

Vance noted that concerns about foreign interventions are valid but expressed trust in Trump’s approach to international issues, particularly regarding Iran. He assured that Trump’s military decisions are focused on advancing American interests, drawing from his experiences close to the administration.

Interestingly, Vance’s defense of Gabbard followed an unsettling moment where Trump seemed to undermine her findings about Iran’s nuclear program. Earlier in March, Gabbard had reported that American intelligence assessed Iran was not currently building nuclear weapons—a claim at odds with Trump’s assertions.

She highlighted that Iran’s enriched uranium levels are unprecedented for a non-nuclear state, and it might continue to work against Israel while supporting various militia groups in the region.

In a video released recently, Gabbard conveyed urgency about global security issues, suggesting the world is perilously close to nuclear conflict. Trump reportedly viewed this statement as a potential obstacle to his supportive stance towards Israel.

As tension rises, Trump acknowledged discussing Iran with reporters, insisting that the country was “very close” to acquiring nuclear capabilities. When asked about Gabbard’s testimony, he maintained his skepticism regarding Iran’s intentions.

However, an official from the National Intelligence Office remarked that just because Iran isn’t currently building nuclear weapons doesn’t mean they aren’t close to doing so, suggesting alignment between Trump and Gabbard’s comments.

While Gabbard wasn’t included in a recent gathering of military leaders, she was present in a White House situation room briefing, signaling her ongoing involvement in critical national security discussions.

Trump said he hadn’t made a definitive decision yet regarding possible military action against Iran, hinting at upcoming significant developments while reflecting on past negotiations that went unpursued, illustrating the complex situation the U.S. faces regarding Iran.
