A black family in California was shocked to discover that someone had apparently vandalized their car while on vacation, using a racial slur and a swastika.
“I couldn't believe this happened to me in San Pedro,” Reginald Scott said in an interview with KTLA-TV.
Scott said the vandalism occurred between Christmas and New Year's Day. Someone used black spray paint to write “Merry Christmas” followed by the N-word on one side of the car. On the other side, he wrote “Happy New Year” and added a swastika to the back of the car. My tire was also flat.
Scott said he thinks someone may have vandalized his Ford Mustang because it was parked in front of someone else's house.
“I don't think that gives you the right to spray paint other people's cars and make racial slurs, even if you park where you shouldn't,” said his son Reginald Scott II. Told. “That would hurt.”
Scott said his car had been vandalized in a previous incident.
On Halloween, someone slashed his truck's tire and sprayed some kind of substance on it. He said someone set his truck on fire in another incident about two years ago.
He is concerned that incidents are escalating and that although his family has lived in San Pedro for 20 years, he no longer feels safe in the city.
Scott has started a GoFundMe Donation page Asking for community support to help them move.
“Having your family's car sprayed with racial slurs is embarrassing, embarrassing and hard to explain to your children. We don't feel safe anymore either,” he wrote on the donation page.
The median home price in San Pedro is approximately $800,000. according to Go to Realtor.com.
