Vanderbilt Medical Center allegedly ‘hiding’ DEI resources: REPORT

First on FOX: While some medical schools have taken steps to scrub diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) commitments from their websites, Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) has found themselves hiding their own behind password-protected web pages.

Consumer Survey of a conservative nonprofit organization announced a campaign on Tuesday entitled “What is Vanderbilt University Medical Center Hidden?” After finding that Vumc removes some of the DEI's commitments and references to resources, but also keeps some and hides them from the public.

“Vanderbilt University Medical Center desperately tries to hide its underlying policy by password protecting and removing web pages that emphasize DEI and commitment to climate activities,” Will Hild, Executive Director of Consumer Research, said in a statement in Fox News Digital. “Until recently, Vumc proudly promoted his awakened ideology and prominently introduced Dei's policy and activist climate agenda throughout its website. In a statement to Fox News Digital, VUMC spokesman John Howser said in light of President Donald Trump's recent enforcement actions, particularly those requiring termination at educational institutions, VUMC will “conduct a thorough review of the program” where revisions may be required, including “remaining compliance,” including updating information on other public platforms.

“We have now chosen to remove relevant websites to ensure accurate and factual information while conducting that review,” Howser added. “VUMC remains committed to maintaining an environment in which all employees, patients and visitors feel equally welcomed, respected and valued.”

A former neighbor officer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison was scrutinized for paying his judgment amid Day's crackdown.

The consumer research campaign includes a letter to Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. calling for the investigation of VUMC into HHS and government efficiency.

“Vumc, the top research hospital in the US, relies heavily on federal dollars,” the letter states. “Taxpayer dollars should be used to prioritize patient care rather than political activity. Consumer research is ready to ensure accountability and help protect consumers as needed.”

VUMC was investigated in 2023 by the Tennessee Attorney General's Office amid allegations that VUMC doctors were manipulating medical claims codes to avoid insurance coverage restrictions for transgender treatment. The investigation, following a video released in 2022, reportedly showed that VUMC doctors would advertise transgender surgeries for minors as “a giant money maker” and quit telling anyone who has religious objections to offering them.
