Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia's brother taken into custody for public intoxication at a game for the second time this season

During the recent victory against Tennessee, Javier Pavia, the younger brother of Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia, was taken into custody. This incident marks the second time he has faced arrest during a game this season.

Javier Pavia, who is 25, was apprehended for public intoxication following a reported altercation with stadium personnel at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, according to local news sources.

Event staff accused him of obstructing other fans’ views with large flags. A police report indicated that law enforcement requested Pavia to take down the flag.

According to the arresting officer, Pavia exhibited slurred speech and had difficulty maintaining his balance during their interactions.

“He was also quite aggressive in his verbal exchanges with event staff and myself,” noted the arrest report.

Pavia was booked into the Knox County Jail on Sunday but later released on his own recognizance, as per jail records obtained.

This isn’t the first time tensions have flared; both Javier and another brother, Roel, were arrested during a game against Charleston Southern back in August.

On that occasion, police arrived at FirstBank Stadium around 9:20 p.m. after receiving complaints about disruptive fans harassing others and throwing food.

During the latest incident, a police officer approached Javier and requested him to exit the stadium, but he refused and resisted arrest, leading to him being placed in a police vehicle.

Roel Pavia, 26, confronted the officers and attempted to intervene, which resulted in both brothers facing charges of public intoxication and resisting arrest in Nashville.

Roel faces additional charges, including assaulting law enforcement.

After spending the night in custody, the Pavia brothers are expected to appear in court on January 12, based on the arrest records.

Meanwhile, Diego Pavia helped lead the Commodores to a strong 10-2 season with their recent win of 45-24 against Tennessee.

The 23-year-old quarterback threw for 286 yards, secured one touchdown, and had two interceptions, while also rushing for 165 yards and another touchdown.

After scoring, he posed in a way reminiscent of the Heisman Trophy, sparking discussions about his potential candidacy for the prestigious award this December.

“Take me to New York,” he stated during a post-game interview, reflecting on what his team has accomplished. “Looking at the numbers and what we’ve achieved, it’s something incredible. I’ve dreamed of this stage since I was a kid.”

Vanderbilt is currently awaiting the decision from the College Football Playoff selection committee regarding their postseason prospects.
