Venezuelan migrant arrested for sexually assaulting young teen

Authorities in Virginia vow to seek justice after a Venezuelan immigrant living in the country illegally was charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old child.

Campbell County deputies announced last week that Renzo Mendoza Montez, 32, was arrested on two felony counts of sexual assault of a minor.

The charges in the Jan. 21 attack do not provide details or circumstances about the victim, other than that the child was between 13 and 14 years old, according to the report. Court records obtained by WSLS.

Montes is a Venezuelan national who has been in the country illegally since crossing the southern border into El Paso, Texas, on September 2, authorities said.

He was subsequently detained and released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. According to Fox News.

Montez was initially held without bail but is now in ICE custody, Fox reported.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin spoke out about the incident, saying Mr. Montez will face the full responsibility of Virginia’s judicial system.

“We pray for the victims tonight and thank the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department,” he said. As mentioned in X’s post.

“Let me be clear: Prosecution must be carried out to the fullest extent of the law.”

The newspaper has reached out to the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office and Customs and Border Protection for comment.
