Venezuelans in Florida Celebrate Maduro's Arrest with Joy

Venezuelan Community Celebrates Maduro’s Capture in Doral, Florida

On Saturday, the Venezuelan community in Doral, Florida, erupted with joy and relief over the news of Nicolás Maduro’s capture, the socialist leader of Venezuela.

According to reports, a large crowd—numbering in the hundreds—gathered outside El Arepaso restaurant, eagerly awaiting details about the significant event.

A young man named Edgar expressed his excitement when speaking to reporters, looking directly into the camera. He emphasized that this was a moment of historical importance, stating, “My heart feels like it’s going to explode with joy.” Edgar mentioned his family’s long struggle for democracy and their shared hope that, finally, change was on the horizon.

While he thanked former President Donald Trump for providing opportunities for Venezuelans in the U.S., he also expressed a strong desire to “work in our own country” moving forward.

Before dawn, a video showed the crowd starting to form in celebration, reflecting the community’s anticipation for news following an airstrike that successfully targeted Maduro and resulted in his capture.

Additional footage from Chile showcased celebrations pouring in as news spread about the dictator’s arrest.

Maduro, who has maintained his grip on power through dubious elections, is wanted by U.S. authorities on several drug-terrorism charges, with a $50 million reward offered for information leading to his arrest. A U.S. court previously connected Maduro to a major cocaine-trafficking operation, which aimed to deliver vast amounts of cocaine into the U.S. over the years.

In response to the airstrike, Venezuela declared a state of emergency.

Rep. Carlos Gimenez, chairman of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee, equated Maduro’s arrest to significant historical moments, such as the fall of the Berlin Wall. He shared his thoughts on social media, noting that this event marks a hopeful chapter for the community he represents, which includes many Venezuelan exiles.

The atmosphere in Doral was electric, with many attendees expressing newfound peace of mind about visiting family in Venezuela given the recent changes. One man stated, “They’ve been waiting for years for a chance to be free, and it’s finally here.” He highlighted the community’s longing for a better future.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed that both Maduro and his wife face serious charges, including conspiracy to import cocaine and possession of a machine gun. This marks a significant turn in the ongoing issues facing Venezuela under Maduro’s regime.
