Veteran agents detain sex offenders and criminals on the night before Veterans Day

Homeland Security Honors Veterans on Veterans Day

This Veterans Day, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) took a moment to recognize the many veterans who have transitioned from military service to roles that protect our borders and communities. The department expressed gratitude for their ongoing commitment to safeguarding the nation.

A spokesperson for DHS pointed out the incredible service of these veterans, stating that they “continue to protect our homeland and freedom by apprehending some of the most dangerous criminals.” Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin highlighted that over 7,500 veterans serve as ICE agents. Recent events have underscored the volatile situations these agents often face, including encounters with armed civilians and aggressive protesters.

DHS Targets Serious Criminals

On the eve of Veterans Day, ICE engaged in operations focusing on sex offenders throughout regions ranging from Pennsylvania’s coal areas to Utah’s deserts. In one case, ICE arrested Albert Miguel Quinones-Quinones, a Colombian national, in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. His criminal record includes serious offenses, including a sexual assault conviction.

ICE also made notable arrests in Buffalo, New York, apprehending Derbez de Jesus Hernandez-Vargas, who has a previous rape conviction from the Bronx. Another arrest involved Luis Castillo-Flores, also from the Dominican Republic and with a history of violent crime.

In Utah, a 61-year-old Guatemalan named Juan Guerra Ubaldo was detained; he had prior charges related to the sexual abuse of a minor. Additionally, Jesus Hernandez Hernandez was arrested in Texas, linked to a past conviction for sexual assault against a child under the age of 14.

While the results of these operations might bring peace of mind to the communities involved, some residents are left pondering the underlying issues contributing to such troubling criminal activity.
