Marine Veteran Thwarts Teen Attack in Oxon Hill
“I felt like my life was in danger,” Jayko Borda recounted after a harrowing encounter. Surveillance footage shows the Marine Corps veteran grappling with a group of teenagers, one of whom brandished a gun directly at him.
The incident unfolded Wednesday afternoon in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Borda tackled the armed teen after the suspect threatened him for his belongings. The video later captured the sound of gunfire.
“I was just working on my car, having what I thought was a normal day, when out of nowhere, these teens approached me,” Borda shared. “One guy put a gun to my head and demanded everything—my keys, my phone, basically all my valuables.”
In total, Borda faced six attackers, four males and two females. During the struggle, shots discharged from a nearby truck, and Borda mentioned that the gun fired unexpectedly. Thankfully, nobody was injured.
Reflecting on how he managed to fend off the assailants, Borda said, “I just got in the zone, you know, with adrenaline pumping and relying on my training.”
Borda served in the Marines, and he believes that his combat training was instrumental in saving his life during this frightening ordeal. Interestingly, his brother also intervened to help confront the attackers, an act that was captured on the same surveillance footage.
This isn’t the first such incident in Borda’s neighborhood; he recounted a similar event from two years ago when a group of teens stole a vehicle just down the street from where he was attacked. “My car was right there in the same spot,” he noted.
Local authorities confirmed that two male teens were arrested in connection with the attack, and four others are still under investigation.
