Veteran Republican and MAGA supporter clash in Texas primary runoff for CD-19

President Trump warns America will be ‘finished’ if Democrats control Congress

The Democratic National Committee recently made public a long-concealed 192-page report analyzing the 2024 election, placing the blame for Kamala Harris’ defeat squarely on former President Biden. Commentators James Klug and Elizabeth Pipko have called out the report for neglecting to address Biden’s cognitive decline. They suggest that Democrats are overlooking significant issues, like open borders and efforts to pack the Supreme Court, which they claim have alienated many voters.

In other news, veteran Republican strategist Tom Sell won a primary runoff against populist candidate Abraham Henriquez in a deeply conservative Texas congressional district. Sell, who has extensive experience in agricultural consulting, emerged victorious on election night, which is particularly notable given the district’s strong Republican leanings.

Describing himself as an “America First” advocate and a “champion of rural America,” Sell garnered support from influential House Republican figures, including Majority Leader Steve Scalise and Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan. He also had backing from younger Republicans like Rep. Brandon Gill and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna.

Conversely, Henriquez, a young anti-establishment candidate, has promoted a “pro-Trump” America First philosophy and founded the conservative Hispanic advocacy group Bienvenido. He received endorsements from Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Turning Point Action, among others, although Trump did not publicly support him in this race.

The 19th Congressional District encompasses large parts of West Texas, including cities like Lubbock and Abilene, and is traditionally a Republican stronghold. Consequently, Sell’s victory lowers any doubts about him succeeding retiring Rep. Jody Arrington, who had previously been endorsed by Trump for re-election but has opted not to run again. Arrington stated, “public service is, and should be, a lifelong commitment, but a temporary stewardship, not a career,” when explaining her decision.

Looking ahead, Sell will be going up against Democratic candidate Kyle Leble, an Army Reserve officer who ran unopposed in his party’s primary.
