Vice President JD Vance gathers $3M for the GOP at a fundraiser in Nantucket

Vice President JD Vance’s Nantucket Fundraiser

On Tuesday, Vice President JD Vance led a significant fundraising effort in Nantucket, garnering $3 million for Republican candidates as the 2026 midterm elections loom.

A fundraising dinner, organized by Laura and Rob Reynolds along with Dave Kelsey and Ozzy Paramo, set new records for donor events on the Massachusetts Island. It’s quite an achievement, considering the competitive climate.

“Vance’s role as RNC finance chair really sets him apart,” noted one GOP strategist. It’s interesting to think about how dynamics shift when someone brings a unique perspective to the table.

“If you compare it to the DNC, there’s really no other headline event quite like this one,” the strategist added.

So far in 2025, the Republican National Committee has pulled ahead of the Democratic National Committee with more than $96 million in donations and almost $81 million available in reserves.

On the other hand, the DNC currently holds over $15 million in cash but has seen its fundraising plummet by more than $69 million this year. That’s quite a dip.

Attending the dinner in Nantucket required a hefty contribution, with couples paying at least $100,000, while a “Host Committee” membership kicked in at $250,000. The stakes in these fundraising efforts are clearly escalating.

Rob Reynolds, who serves as the President and CEO of Putnam Investments and chairs Great-West Lifeco US, has been a notable figure in promoting employer-sponsored 401(k) plans. He has an intriguing history, having spent years as an NCAA football referee.

Meanwhile, Ozzy Paramo, a founding partner and managing director at Chartwell Strategy Group, shifted his focus from previously fundraising for Haley to bundling for the RNC. There are so many interesting paths people take in this arena.

Dave Kelsey runs Hamilton Point Investments, focusing on real estate, particularly multi-family units. He’s a longtime supporter of the GOP and has been active in helping elect Republicans in Connecticut through his Political Action Committee, CT Truth PAC.

Despite the overall success of the event, there was a notable protest. Some demonstrators criticized Vance, invoking the “childless cat woman” remark he made during the 2024 campaign. It’s fascinating how comments can resurface in such a volatile environment.

Miranda McGonigle, who manages the Instagram account “Cat Sofa,” led a group of protesters on the island—playfully dubbed “Meowtucket” during their demonstration. Inspiration came from the resurfacing of Vance’s controversial comments.

This protest drew support from left-leaning groups like Mass 50501 and Cape Cod for Change, showcasing the diverse reactions to political figures and their statements. The contrasts in opinions are often so stark, reminding us of the complex nature of political discourse.
