Tragic Colorado Accident Claims Lives of Father and Three Children
A father and his three young children tragically lost their lives in a crash in Colorado, involving a stolen vehicle. The identity of the suspect remains undisclosed, though authorities have identified him as a man from Denver.
On Monday afternoon, 35-year-old Alvin Collado from Colorado Springs, along with his children Makenley (11), Toretto (8), and friend Jace Green (12), were involved in a devastating incident on Highway 83. Just before 4:40 p.m., a stolen Toyota hatchback struck the family’s Ford sedan head-on.
Authorities stated that the Toyota had been reported stolen roughly an hour prior to the accident after being carjacked at Nine Mile Station in Aurora.
The suspect, a 31-year-old man, allegedly forcefully removed the female driver from the vehicle before fleeing. While speeding on the highway, he apparently lost control of the Toyota, veering into oncoming traffic and colliding with the Collado vehicle.
All four occupants of the Ford sedan died at the scene. Meanwhile, McKenley, Toretto’s sister Mia, aged 13, and Jace’s 14-year-old brother were airlifted to a nearby hospital, where they were treated for serious injuries.
While the police have not released the name of the suspect, they confirmed he has a criminal record. There was no explanation given for withholding this information.
The Douglas County Coroner’s Office mentioned that they will respect the family’s wishes and not reveal the suspect’s identity at this moment.
Mia’s mother, Marissa Corrado, described her daughter’s critical condition in a recent Facebook update. Mia suffered multiple severe injuries, including a lacerated liver and fractures. Though Mia was able to move to a wheelchair, she continues to struggle with health issues, such as heart problems.
Marissa shared that amidst her daughter’s trauma, Mia remembered the moments before and during the crash. It’s heartbreaking to think about—a 13-year-old recalling such a horrific event.
Mia has expressed concerns for the family, often worrying about how they will cope with their loss. Marissa shared her daughter’s resilience, noting that Mia, despite her grief, instinctively seeks to care for others.
A wake has been planned for McKenley and Toretto in Colorado Springs, with a joint funeral set for South Dakota once Mia’s recovery permits travel.
A GoFundMe page has been established to assist the family with funeral expenses, Mia’s medical bills, and to support Marissa during this difficult time.
In addition, Sabin Middle School, where McKenley attended, expressed their sorrow, describing her as a vibrant member of the school community and urging others to hold the family in their thoughts.
