the police were released security video Footage of a thug attempting to set a convenience store clerk on fire before riding off on a scooter in California.
Santa Ana Police released video footage of the incident, which occurred around 11:51 a.m. Oct. 25 at the meat market in the 1800 block of S. Standard Street.
The video shows several customers inside the store before a man approaches an employee and forcefully shoves a female customer. He poured lighter fluid on the clerk and the cash register, but the clerk tried to shoo him away when the thugs tried to set his hand on fire and take his money at the same time.
Customers rush away from the struggle. Police said the suspect demanded money in Spanish, then gave up and fled. Investigators say the man fled the scene on a Razor scooter.
It's unclear if anyone was harmed, but the suspects were unable to steal any cash from the register.
Police have not been able to identify the man and are asking for the public's help in arresting him. They described him as a Hispanic male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with “Dirty Bird” printed in white letters on the front. He also wore gray pants, gray Vans shoes, and a black disposable face mask.
In January 2023, an unrelated arson attempt in California was also captured on security video. Video shows two men dumping gasoline at a Bakersfield tax preparation business, causing one of them to fall and accidentally immolate himself.
Firefighters were able to respond quickly to limit the damage caused by the arson, but the owner said the store was also robbed the next day after the fire rendered the cameras inoperable.
Video of the attack is below.
