Violence remains on the rise in California, even as Governor Gavin Newsom and other Democratic leaders express their concerns. Recently, footage captured anti-ice protesters distributing tactical gear among themselves in Los Angeles.
An individual, whose identity is still unknown, was seen handing out what seemed to be a gas mask and riot shield from behind a pickup truck during the afternoon on Monday.
“This is quite unsettling,” commented Fox11 anchor Elex Michaelson upon viewing the footage. “If you’re wearing a mask, it suggests you might not want anyone recognizing you. That’s definitely a concern.”
As the protests entered their fifth day, chaos ensued following a weekend of turmoil. The situation prompted an additional 2,000 National Guard troops to head towards Los Angeles, aiming to help manage the unrest.
Reports indicate that anti-ice demonstrators have been hurling rocks and cement at federal agents, igniting vehicles, and disrupting traffic as they exhibit their rage.
The FBI also announced they were searching for a masked individual, identified as 40-year-old Elpidi Oreina, who was accused of throwing a rock at federal officials.
“Elpidio Reina can run, but he can’t hide,” said the FBI, as he faces serious charges that could lead to a prison sentence of up to eight years if found guilty.
In the midst of the chaos, numerous arrests have taken place as law enforcement scrambles to re-establish order in the city.
Meanwhile, despite the widespread disorder, Governor Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass criticized President Trump for deploying the National Guard, asserting that the protests were predominantly peaceful.
In response, Trump claimed that without the presence of security forces, the city would face utter devastation.
