Recently released footage shows Alex Preti in a confrontation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on January 13, just 11 days before he was shot by a Border Patrol agent, according to family representatives.
As reported, the 37-year-old Preti is featured in bystander video where a group of unmarked vehicles converges on a street corner in south Minneapolis. The clip captures a moment of tension, with a whistleblower taunting the immigration officials. Family representatives have confirmed that the man in the video is indeed Preti.
Alex Preti, an intensive care nurse who was killed by federal agents recently, was overwhelmed by officers in a separate incident recorded 11 days prior, according to video obtained.
The footage shows Preti, amidst a crowd of whistleblowers, expressing his frustration at immigration officials on January 13 as an unmarked motorcade appeared in south Minneapolis.
A spokesperson and the family’s attorney have substantiated that the individual seen in the video is Preti.

News Movement, the source of the January 13 footage, claimed on X that it “appears to show Alex Preti interacting with federal immigration officials.” The BBC analyzed the video and its facial recognition technology matched his identity with 97% accuracy.
The BBC later confirmed the video’s authenticity during a news broadcast, stating that the individual depicted shares characteristics with Preti, including his hair, beard, and mannerisms, while facial recognition suggested a 97% match.
In the video aired by the BBC, the reporter indicated that additional footage shows “Alex Preti and other participants clashing with federal agents following the death of Renee Goode.”
The reporter noted, “The exact motivations of the investigators remain unclear.” He further identified that the man in the video exhibits similar physical traits to Preti, with technology backing up a high match percentage.
Furthermore, the video reportedly records Preti “yelling” and making “kicking” gestures towards a vehicle.
There was an instance where Preti was reportedly held to the ground, and upon rising, he noticed a firearm in his waistband. Shortly after this, he was released, and tragically, just eleven days later, his death became widely publicized.
In a recent post on X, Bill Melgin shared that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is aware of the video and that the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is looking into the matter.
AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News reported that the DHS indicated their agents in Minneapolis were focusing on operatives involved in crime when Preti approached Border Patrol agents “with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun.”
