A political advertisement targeting Democrat candidate Abdul El-Sayed is gaining attention for its impactful message during this election cycle.
This video highlights El-Sayed, who is campaigning for the U.S. Senate in Michigan, not disavowing the controversial opinions of socialist streamer Hasan Piker. Piker infamously stated that America “deserved” the 9/11 attacks.
“I’m not here to disavow people’s views,” the ad quotes El-Sayed, prompting a powerful response from David Beamer, whose son Todd Beamer was on United Flight 93 during the terrorist attacks.
In the ad, David Beamer recalls fond memories with his son: “His name was Todd Beamer. He had little boys, ages three and a half and one and a half. He had a wife, Lisa, who was five months pregnant.” Todd was on Flight 93, which the hijackers planned to crash into a key building, possibly the U.S. Capitol. He was heard on a phone call with an operator, discussing the need to confront the hijackers.
“They took a vote and decided, ‘We need to fight back,'” David recounts. The operator, Lisa Jefferson, remembered Todd’s determination: “He said, ‘OK. Let’s roll.'” Their brave actions led to the plane crashing in a Pennsylvania field, averting further tragedy.
“Those 43 people on Flight 93 were not victims. They were killed in action,” David emphasizes, expressing his outrage at anyone suggesting that America deserved the attacks. “When I hear anyone suggest America deserves 9/11, my question is: Who would say that?” he asks.
The ad further showcases Piker’s livestream comments defending the terrorists’ actions, where he stated, “America deserved 9/11, dude. I’m saying it!” It wraps up with El-Sayed’s reluctance to distance himself from Piker’s views.
A reporter poses a question: “Abdul, are there any views that Hasan holds that you disavow?” El-Sayed responds, “I’m not here to disavow people’s views.”
This political ad has sparked strong reactions online, urging voters to consider rejecting El-Sayed and throw their support behind Republican Mike Rogers. Interestingly, back in August, El-Sayed referred to Piker’s statements as “dumb,” yet he did not clarify whether he would sever ties with the streamer.
