Social media was abuzz on Wednesday and Thursday following the arrest of illegal immigrants in Washington, D.C., who were involved in child sex crime allegations.
In one instance, a Mexican national named David Perez Theofani was apprehended when he tried to flee as officers approached his vehicle, causing quite a scene, as seen in footage shared by NBC Washington.
The video captures him crying out in Spanish while being subdued on the pavement.
Theofani faced prior issues, having been recently arrested in Fairfax County for allegedly sexually assaulting a child under 13 years old. According to Homeland Security Deputy Director Tricia McLaughlin, he had entered the country illegally on multiple occasions and received a final removal order.
On social media, reactions were mixed. One notable response came from actor Dean Cain, who noted the situation, saying, “It turns out he’s a criminal.” This video circulated widely, garnering various opinions.
Some commenters expressed frustration at the circumstances, questioning what they should feel about the force used during the arrest. For example, one person remarked, “Are we supposed to be angry? He entered the country illegally three times, and when he tried to escape, he was subdued with reasonable force.”
Others, however, voiced concern over the decision to approach him in the first place. One user remarked on social media, raising worries about possible overreach, stating, “Fascism is here. We are a fascist nation.”
Additionally, Attorney General Pam Bondi mentioned that recent operations in the capital have been tied to immigration issues, noting the arrests of 630 individuals and the recovery of illegal firearms as part of efforts to increase safety in D.C.
