Charges Filed Against Mother and Partners in Child Death Case

In a case that has left detectives and local officials reeling, a mother from Ohio and her two transgender partners have been accused of torturing and murdering her 7-year-old disabled son, ultimately hiding his body in a closet.

The tragic discovery occurred at the family’s home in Cincinnati, where investigators found the boy, William Evans, with duct tape around him. Hamilton County Coroner Lakshmi Sanmarco was taken aback by the scene when he arrived to assist in the investigation.

His report gained traction on social media after a video went viral, revealing the grim details. The coroner mentioned, despite his professional composure, he was momentarily stunned upon opening the closet door.

Authorities conducted an autopsy, confirming the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head.

Officials have stated that Caitlin Evans, aged 38, along with her partners Nessa Keeney, 23, and Kirby Rankin, 33, were said to have inflicted severe abuse on the child, using methods such as punching and waterboarding.

All three were arrested and are facing charges, including murder and child endangerment. Reports from news organizations have circulated widely, including details of their court appearances which have also captured public attention.

Detective Kyle Smith, a seasoned investigator, described this incident during a court session as possibly the most horrific case of child abuse he has ever encountered. He elaborated on the physical beatings and extensive injuries found on the boy’s body.

The coroner’s findings revealed numerous bruises, burns, and signs of severe trauma, including a fractured skull. The investigation continues, with authorities looking into a possible murder weapon and not ruling out the likelihood of sexual abuse.

Initial court proceedings showed that Evans, Keeney, and Rankin were involved in a relationship and lived together, co-parenting their children. The boy’s father, who is not facing charges, expressed his devastation in court, lamenting the trust he placed in his former partner.

An attorney representing Evans stated his belief that the blame for the child’s death would fall on one of the other accused, asserting the mother’s alleged inaction rather than direct involvement in the abuse.

Currently, all three suspects remain jailed, each with a bail set at $1 million.
