Call for Extradition in Martinez Murder Case

Federal authorities are urging California’s Democratic governor to extradite a man accused of fatally stabbing 68-year-old Todd Stewart outside his Martinez home, just one day after his release from custody.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has requested that Governor Gavin Newsom extradite the suspect, as reported by Fox News. The post made on social media reiterated the request, emphasizing the urgency of removing this individual from the country.

The suspect, identified as Marcos Iriarte Valdez, reportedly has a criminal history and is also facing robbery charges linked to two incidents in Contra Costa County.

According to the New York Post, a judge appointed by Newsom released Valdez the day before the alleged murder occurred. This decision has sparked significant outrage, especially given the circumstances surrounding the case.

Iriarte Valdez has resided in the U.S. since 2007 and had a prior run-in with the law that led to his detention. He was subsequently granted pretrial release under questionable circumstances related to a previous robbery charge, just before the shocking murder of Stewart.

DHS outlined numerous charges against Valdez, including murder, spousal injury, multiple theft counts, and violations of court orders. Reports suggest that Stewart was confronting Valdez during an attempted robbery when Valdez allegedly turned violent, resulting in the stabbing.

There is even disturbing video footage that reportedly captures the interaction between the suspect and Stewart on the sidewalk, adding another layer of complexity to the already tense situation.

Officials have voiced strong criticism regarding California’s sanctuary policies, questioning how many more tragedies like this must unfold before meaningful action is taken to ensure public safety.

It’s worth noting that while Valdez was admitted to the U.S. during the George W. Bush presidency, he has since been designated an “illegal alien.” DHS confirmed that he remains in custody as they navigate the legal proceedings ahead.
