During the Fourth of July weekend, children were spotted enjoying boat rides in what many described as “sewage brown” water at a well-known amusement park in Maryland, sparking concern on social media.
A TikTok video shared over the holiday shows a toddler blissfully navigating one of the boat attractions at Ocean City Amusement Park’s Trimper Rides, according to reports.
In this viral clip, whimsically titled “Is this legal? (Just kidding) I really don’t get it,” colorful little boats can be seen circling through murky brown water.
The video has amassed over 2.6 million views since its posting on Sunday, prompting a flurry of critical comments directed at the park.
“Is this water really safe?” one viewer questioned, while another remarked, “That ride is way overdue for some upkeep.”
“It’s probably radioactive by now,” another joked.
Concerns about health violations were also raised, with some humorously comparing the scene to a movie moment.
“Is that the water from ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’?” one user quipped.
But a more pressing question emerged: “Why is sewage brown?”
This alarming situation left many visitors uneasy, particularly those who remembered the park’s past.
“Wasn’t that water once crystal clear? I swear I have a childhood photo of me riding it,” one comment read.
Another user nostalgically recalled, “I still have a picture of me and my sister back when the water was blue.”
Previous visits to the park showed the rides featuring clean, blue water, leaving many puzzled about when things had changed.
The reasons behind the murky water remain unclear, but it has clearly raised a lot of concern and confusion.

Trimper Ride Management has not yet responded to requests for clarification.
