North Carolina Sheriff’s Questionable Knowledge Exposed in Hearing
The investigation in North Carolina concerning the violent murder of Irina Zalutka has brought to light a surprising video showcasing the confusion of Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden.
During a hearing, Republican state Representative Allen Chesser posed a question, and it quickly became clear that McFadden was uncertain about which government branch he was part of. Not only that, but he also struggled to identify how many government agencies exist.
Initially trying to find common ground, Chesser asked, “What branch of government do you operate under?” McFadden responded with, “Mecklenburg County,” which prompted Chesser to seek clarification once more.
This back-and-forth continued as Chesser pressed, “Sheriff, which branch do you fall into?” After some hesitation, McFadden articulated, “The Constitution of the United States.”
Chesser rephrased his question, “I’m asking which branch you fall into,” yet McFadden maintained his stance, stating he serves the people of Mecklenburg County. The conversation took another turn when Chesser asked if McFadden knew the total number of government agencies, to which the sheriff admitted he did not know.
In an attempt to clarify, Chesser explained there are typically three branches: legislative, executive, and judicial. “Which of the three do you think you belong to?” Chesser inquired again.
McFadden replied, “I believe I fall into that last one,” to which Chesser noted, “You qualify as an executive.” This interchange clearly highlighted the sheriff’s lack of understanding of basic governmental structure.
Previously, McFadden had criticized the Trump administration’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations. During the hearing, he faced scrutiny from lawmakers for what they viewed as a failure to accept accountability regarding issues occurring in the county jail, including several deaths and criticism over allegations of misconduct.
Chesser later shared a video reflecting the concerning interactions that took place during the hearing on social media.
