Shocking video has been released showing the moment a suspected carjacker stops a two-year-old boy in a stolen car and abandons him.
Bystanders cared for the boy until police arrived and reunited him with his mother.
The car carrying the boy was allegedly stolen outside his mother's home in Oakland on Tuesday.
that video Obtained from KGO-TV The video shows the carjacking suspect carrying the boy out of the car and onto the street outside a warehouse in San Leandro. A minute later, a bus stopped near the child and the bus driver came to help him. Other bystanders are also seen caring for the child.
The boy was found four miles from his mother's home in Oakland.
KGO also captured the moment police reunited the boy with his mother.
The mother was able to help police after realizing she had left her cell phone and Airpods in the stolen car. She was able to obtain the location of the stolen vehicle by signing into the Find My Phone application.
Police found the car in the parking lot of a McDonald's fast food restaurant.
“The mother was able to provide us with ongoing updates and at one point indicated that the device appeared to be located on Tiburon Boulevard,” Marin County Sheriff Adam Schermerhorn said. “Security camera footage showed a man and woman getting out of the stolen vehicle and walking away toward the north from the back of the McDonald's.”
Police said the two suspects were found sitting at a nearby bus stop.
Viorel Andrei Morari, 34, of Oakland, was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, child abuse and carjacking, according to law enforcement records.
