NFL legend Terrell Davis was escorted off a United Airlines flight by the FBI on July 13th.

The Denver Broncos Hall of Famer was handcuffed after he tried to get the attention of a flight attendant because he didn’t hear his son ask for ice.

“I calmly reached back and tapped him on the arm, reminding him to ask for more ice for my son,” Davis said.

Davis said a flight attendant yelled “Don’t hit me!” and he was handcuffed and taken away when the plane landed.

The video doesn’t show the initial exchange, but shows an FBI agent speaking with Davis before he eventually stands up and then places his right hand on Davis’ right shoulder blade as they exit the plane together after handing the tablet to the woman.

It is unclear whether Davis is handcuffed in the video.

“This video confirms the horrifying story of multiple law enforcement agents, including the FBI, boarding the plane and arresting a shocked, frightened, humiliated but compliant Mr. Davis in front of his wife, Tamiko, his minor children and more than 100 other passengers,” Parker Stinner, managing partner at Stinner, Gould, Glico & Hensley, said in a statement.

“The rationale behind false or inaccurate reports by United Airlines employees goes far beyond a simple request for ice or an innocent shoulder tap. This is why we are filing suit: only through the legal process can the truth emerge and hold United Airlines accountable for the systemic failings that caused this tragic incident and inflicted irreparable damage and lasting suffering on the Davis family.”

Davis said the flight had been “normal” until drink service began. The former NFL player said he was reading a magazine while his two sons, seated in the row next to him, were engrossed in their tablets.

“The kids were busy playing on their iPads and didn’t reply. I remember him getting a little aggressive in his tone, and I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s a bit rude of him to ask my kids that.'”

Davis said in a statement on Monday that law enforcement determined the flight attendant’s account of the incident was “inaccurate” and that she “deeply apologized.” United Airlines released a statement saying it had removed the flight attendant from duty pending an investigation into the incident, according to ABC.

Mr Davis, 51, said it was a “horrible example of injustice and deplorable treatment”.

“I thought nothing of it other than that this employee was incredibly rude and the accusation that I punched him was patently false,” Davis said in a social media post.

“I feel devastated, ashamed, humiliated and I feel like I’ve been robbed of my dignity in front of my children and my family,” he said. “I want United to be held to account.”
