Shocking video was released Monday capturing the horrifying moment a pickup truck drove onto a Harlem sidewalk and plowed into two pedestrians.
Police say the horrific crash happened just before 4:50 p.m. on the corner of St. Nicholas Avenue and West 148th Street, when the driver of the truck “became unable to navigate the roadway” and rolled onto the sidewalk.
Surveillance footage from the scene showed the pickup truck struck two men, knocking them onto the road before striking a fire hydrant and a UPS truck parked on the street.
After the crash, one of the victims jumped up and ran from the truck, while the other victim remained on the ground behind the pickup truck, according to the video.
A video taken by a passerby later showed paramedics assisting the victim, who was lying on the road next to the crashed vehicle and holding his head.
Paramedics loaded him onto a stretcher and loaded him into an ambulance as a small crowd looked on.
The other alleged victim described to officers on the scene how the driver rounded a corner and jumped a curb, knocking him and the man to the ground. According to a video in the Citizen app:.
“[The driver] “He saved both of us. I jumped in the air and he dived,” he tells officers in the video.
Police say the driver remained at the scene uninjured.
“It could have happened to any of us,” said the woman filming the Citizen video, adding that the bang of the crash could be heard from the upper floors of a nearby building.
The two victims were taken to NYC Health Department Harlem Hospital in stable condition, but details about their injuries were not immediately available.
No charges had been filed as of Monday night as the investigation is ongoing.
