Earlier this month, a Florida couple’s date night celebration turned terrifying when police say three thugs chased them home and shot them both. Vicious Robbery.
Security camera footage captured the moment Kim Chambliss and her boyfriend Val DelaCruz were caught in a scuffle with armed robbers outside their Riverview home as they tried to flee.
“We didn’t even realize that people were constantly watching what we do. It’s scary.”
The couple said they won a jackpot at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, withdrew about $3,000 and returned home when armed men surrounded their car and demanded money.
The video showed the horrific attack, with Dela Cruz being shot in the leg.
“I ran and fell through the door and the other guy came out and shot me a third time in my left leg,” he recalled.
“I heard another gunshot and my first thought was, ‘They killed him.’ I became hysterical, screaming and crying,” Chambliss said.
After the neighbor came outside, the men fled in a car.
Investigators found surveillance footage from the casino that showed two men watching the couple for about two hours, then following them to their home.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of two suspects, Marcus Jennings and Tristin Wright, and is searching for a third suspect who fled the scene. Jenkins is charged with attempted murder and Wright is charged with being a principal to attempted murder.
Delacruz said responding officers had to apply a tourniquet to his leg to stop the bleeding.
“I lost a lot of blood. If they hadn’t done that, I wouldn’t have survived,” he said.
Chambliss told WTVT-TV that the couple have a date night once a month, but because of their busy jobs, they don’t go out often.
“We’re just normal people, going out and having a good time, loving each other and enjoying each other’s company,” she said, “and to know that we didn’t realize that people were constantly watching what we were doing is terrifying. It’s frightening.”
The assailants stole the couple’s watches, jewelry and Chambliss’ wallet.
