A Good Samaritan with a Spatula Rescues In-N-Out Crew
A recent incident at an In-N-Out restaurant in Lake Elsinore, Southern California, highlighted the bravery of a customer who intervened when a violent confrontation broke out.
Twenty-year-old Luca Opperman was in the drive-thru line when he heard a woman yelling inside the restaurant. According to reports, he noticed her wielding what looked like a baseball bat, and he felt compelled to act. With a background as a gymnast and freestyle trampoline athlete, he literally jumped into action, launching himself through the drive-thru window to confront her.
Video footage shows Opperman attempting to take the stick from the woman, but she managed to pull it away. Undeterred, he stood firm. Eventually, she moved out of view, prompting Opperman to chase after her.
At that point, he had grabbed a metal spatula to confront her. Opperman recounted yelling, “Get out of here! Get out of here!” while brandishing the spatula.
When the woman refused to leave, he described going in for a shoulder tackle, saying, “I checked her. I grabbed the stick. It was about the size of a baseball bat, and the other end was broken off, so it had a sharp edge.” Fortunately, he was able to take the stick without anyone getting hurt. Police later arrested 53-year-old Antonieta Sanchez, charging her with brandishing a weapon and felony vandalism.
Witnesses mentioned that the woman became angry because her burger wasn’t made quickly enough. Opperman’s decisive actions earned him the title of hero among those who saw the event unfold.
Responses on social media were overwhelmingly positive, with one person commenting, “Luca is a brave person; I hope he gets free In-N-Out burgers for a very long time.” Another user expressed gratitude for his courage, while yet another compared him to Spider-Man, noting how his gymnastics skills were crucial in that moment.
Despite the accolades, Opperman remained humble, insisting that he acted out of a sense of responsibility for the safety of the employees and customers. “If I didn’t step in right there and then, I knew that somebody would have gotten hurt,” he said.
